It was 10 years ago that I was about to have a lumpectomy for stage 2 breast cancer. I don’t talk about it much but the journey is with me every day. It was a steep decline and a long struggle back. My body could no longer fight cancer cells but it strongly resisted the chemotherapy. There was no treat in treatment for me.
The chemo nurses would give me literature to help with symptoms. The Breast Cancer Recovery brochure was among the literature. I set it aside for when I would have strength, keeping in mind the retreat dates printed on the brochure. That day came in 2012 when I decided to attend a retreat because the retreat curriculum is written by breast cancer survivors, office is staffed by survivors and retreats are staffed by survivor volunteers too. So they understood what I was going through and could offer next steps to build back a life.
Fast forward to 2021 where I have been a Breast Cancer Recovery volunteer since 2013 as retreat staff, doing the tough job of chocolate judge during a fundraiser, hosting Cards for Cause to raise funds for BCR and attending other fundraising events.
When the Bouquet of Hope Paper Pumpkin Kit was revealed, it was the perfect opportunity to offer this kit as a fundraising event for Breast Cancer Recovery. The kit provides supplies to create nine cards and coordinating envelopes. It’s an all inclusive kit: patterned card bases, die-cut floral elements, ribbon, embellishments, a stamp set, ink spot, adhesives, clear acrylic block and envelopes all arrive directly to your mailbox. No additional supplies are needed except the Zoom link to create the kit along with everyone else during the Zoom Make and Take Party! If you can’t make the Zoom party, there are directions included and a Youtube assembly video will be provided.
The kit’s exclusive Bouquet of Hope Stamp Set features supportive sentiments centered around comfort, care, hope, and love. Such a versatile stamp set can be used throughout the year. We all know someone who could use a heartfelt, handmade card that gives strength during a difficult time. Hand made by you is even better.
