4-H Cards for a Cause

My niece Stephanie is going on a service learning trip to Alaska with 4-H friends this summer. She needs to raise $900 for travel expenses so leading a Cards for a Cause was something I could do to help her.

Each guest created 3 greeting cards featuring Sale-a-bration products. The taco truck card was one of the designs featuring the Tasty Trucks. The other cards used the Hey, Chick stamp set and Sale-a-bration Pretty Pocket Card Kit.

I can tell that this is my card sample in the photo below because the taco is topping side down! I did not notice I stamped them that way until someone pointed it. The reason I stamped them that way came to me later. I worked in the More 4 deli in River Falls during college and we fried taco shells for Taco Tuesday each week. They dried upside down over night. So after 4 years of frying, this is how my mind thinks tacos should look. haha!

There was one set of Cards to Go to assemble so Stephanie and Lindsey worked on that while we cleaned up. Lindsey is watercoloring the chicken from the Hey, Chick stamp set.

The rest of the crew was my sister Wendy, Stephanie’s Mom, cleaning up the card station and my Mom cleaning up the refreshments in the back. Of course Stephanie was there too! She took the photos. We did not get a group photo so we will have to settle for the stealth mode photos.

We raised $240 towards Stephanie’s goal of $900.

Pretties

I love to create 3-D’s…maybe it is because I know a treasure will be tucked inside…maybe it’s because I can use embellishments that have thickness…I know it’s because I can use my coordinating Stampin’ Up! products to make the design session easier and presentation look professional.

Here is what I am working on for an upcoming event where the ladies will appreciate the pampering. Our clear tiny treat boxes will contain the inspirational messages with fun touches.

I decided to share my hoarded stash of sparkly embellishments which add the perfect touch to the box top. Pretties!

These will be the dinner party favor. I hope to share the table setting after the event. So stay tuned!

Consider creating in sweet sugarplum today. It will delight your senses!

I’m a Hooker!

Ok, I know I have used that line before, but it is true! Mom and I started hooking about 3 years ago and finished our first Halloween themed rug this fall. Well, Mom did. As I was working on the last hooks on Christmas Eve, Dad noted I was on the wrong holiday. I have to bind the rug yet but need to find the right shade of black wool yarn first.

The next day, I received inspiration from a Christmas gift to Jim’s Mom from his sister Sue. Sue is a quilter. She used a design from Kimberbell designs. You are not tipsy, I must have moved as I was taking the photo so it is blurry.

img_6565

I traced the squares onto copy paper the good ole fashioned way by putting the quilt on a window. Wrote down the widths and I have a pattern!

Transposing it all to burlap using a wide, black sharpie and Dad’s squares creates a canvas to hook on.

img_6574

A mix of new and recycled wools will be cut into strips which are “hooked” in the burlap holes.

After a few days of hooking in between doing other things…

img_6668

The loops up close. Yes, every one is hand hooked by me. A slow process for sure. Lots of time for paper crafting designs to swirl around in my head while I hook.

img_6671

Mom decided to wool applique the same pattern but selected different wools. We hope to finish a block a month for our own Block of the Month Club. You can hear me laugh out loud (yes, I just typed it all out instead of using LOL), because our first rug took so long and this is pretty close to the same size.

I’ll share our progress and eventually the completed Halloween themed rug!

What other hobbies do you enjoy besides paper crafting?

Over the river and through the woods, to the cheese factory we go…

Over the river and through the woods to 2 Grandmother’s houses we go…and along the way, we make stops. Not for hot chocolate but for cheese! I noted this shop on my route to the festivities and stopped on the way back.

Where in the World are we? They had large viewing windows sharing the planks of cheese wheels which would have been a perfect photo op. But I did not bring my catalog inside with me. The parking lot was ice sheets so I opted for this photo from my car instead on my way out.

I purchased the black mustard, mustard melange and honey clover cheeses which will be oh so good on grilled cheeses!

Comment below if you know what town I was in and what your favorite variety of cheese from this shop is!

Strapping in Precious Cargo

I felt the need for some purple kombucha yesterday. Did not matter the flavor inside. I just knew that the juniper rose NessAlla kombucha has a purple label. So that is what I bought! I have not tried this flavor before since I opt for the ginger infused ones. I was pleasantly surprised with the flavor profile! Oh so good!

I strap all my precious cargo in. Here is Paper Pumpkin!

And the original precious cargo. I think about Spencer each time I strap something else in.

I must have looked into the crystal ball when I took the NessAlla photo yesterday with the idea to create a precious cargo post. NessAlla asked to see our booch today so here is mine!   #whosyourbooch #boochslayer #kombucha #nessalla #localbrand #nessallakombucha

Check back tomorrow to see where I delivered Paper Pumpkins too. The stack got strapped in too although I did not take a photo!

Now back to enjoying my refreshingly delicious booch!
