I checked Overture’s seating chart over last weekend for tickets to experience Snatam Kaur. There were 2 front row seats available. I checked again before heading out last night and they were still there! I decided to take advantage of these seats if they were available when I arrived at the box office. Alas, they were sold to the couple that had just visited the box office before me.

So I settled for a front row balcony seat where I could receive the full experience. I would be able to see all the performers, enjoy the music float up and enjoy the heat rise too.

As I entered my row, a person sat 2 seats over. Soon, a couple were seated between us. To my right was a person that slipped in her seat after me. As I opened my newly purchased CD, I decided to act on my intention for the evening. I wanted to make a connection. One sentence that entered my mind as I drove down East Washington Street.

We had a lively exchange. Tracy is a storyteller. WOW, an author, I thought. She traveled from Menomonie today for a storytelling session at a local library. I asked if she was reading from her own books. Tracy said, no, she is a real life story teller. Experiencing Snatam Kaur was a maybe on her agenda for the day. I am glad she made it a priority. She helped make my new experience for the day better.

My intention of making a connection was fulfilled by meeting Tracy. I grew up just south of Menomonie, attending the Sacred Chant was a maybe for me too and I am a storyteller through my blog. If I had not gotten a little lost navigating the Madison streets, I would have been in the front row seats and missed the opportunity to meet Tracy. Funny how that worked out. My GPS was conspiring with the universe:)

The Sacred Chant Concert started. As the simple sounds from the stage started filling the room, the fifth instrument, the audience voices, grew stronger. Space after the mantras are left open. No clapping after finishing the mantras. Although there was clapping throughout the concert including a reminder to vote. Snatam Kaur is a peace activist so I would have expected no less than her statements surrounding voting.

There were bagpipes, oh yes. An expected guest via a cell phone tone is my guess. They sounded at an appropriate time during a chant introduction about finding your own voice. We had a laugh at that.

To finish the night, Snatam Kaur signed CD’s. I was star struck! I was trying to think of something to say and came up with just saying Peace and Thank You. Those stars came out so I don’t think that is what I said. Snatam Kaur was a gracious host throughout the night and during the after show. I am glad I attended!

One last thought. Snatam Kaur is a scientist. So we have starting out in science in common. We most likely have similar thought patterns. Maybe that is why I have been so drawn to her and her music. I remember reading about Snatam Kaur after she appeared in Oprah’s Super Soul Sessions. I’ll have to watch the session again. It was a good one.
