Coffee Break Suite #3

I had a design session for a blog hop that featured the Coffee Break Suite. If you missed the hop, click here and hop along. Great projects are featured from Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators around the world!

I decided to share the designs that did not make the hop in different posts. Click here to see design #1 that was posted the day before the hop. Today I am sharing design #3.

This is a no scrap generated designer series paper design. The uncut, circle printed dsp is 4×5 inches. The individual coffee pots did not generate scrap because the pieces between the pots went right to the trash bin since the entire sheet of pots was fussy cut. So I did not add to my scrap pile. That’s what makes it a no scrap generated dsp design.

Cut at an angle on your personal trimmer as shown. Position the paper so the larger portion is on the right side of the cutting groove. Line up the top corner with the cutting groove. Line up the opposite corner with the 1 1/2 inch mark. Then cut the paper into two pieces. The larger piece is used on the outside of the card. The smaller piece is used on the inside of the card.

The next fun detail is the stamped hearts inside the soft sky circles. See the original pattern in the bottom right of this photo. Early espresso inked hearts perfectly coordinates with the Coffee Break designer series paper.

The soft sky finely woven ribbon makes a soft seam between the whisper white and Coffee Break dsp.

Supplies used…fussy cut the coffee pots easily using our paper snips.

Coffee Break Blog Hop

I hope you are enjoying our Coffee Break Blog Hop along with a cup of coffee or tea. I’m hopping with fellow Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from all over the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada. You may have arrived from Sandra Robert’s blog. She had a fabulous project!

Today’s hop features the Coffee Break designer series paper (dsp) with coordinating Coffee Cafe stamp set and Coffee Cup framelits. With 12 patterns to select from on 6 double sided sheets, our blog hop projects may or may not include coffee themes. The opposite sides of the dsp usually feature a complimentary pattern like strips, circles or asymmetrical prints that may be used instead of the coffee patterns.

I decided to create a dark chocolate espresso bean treat sack for my project. Our 2×8 inch cellophane bags holds about a serving of beans after I cut the bag to 5 inches. But a serving for me is 3 beans. I will probably be wide awake tonight since I sampled while I was designing:)

The bag topper is 2×4 inches of early espresso cardstock that was embossed using the softly falling embossing folder and folded to make a 2×2 inch topper. The next layer is 4×1 1/2 inches from the Coffee Break designer series paper package. A whisper white 1 1/4 inch circle creates a mat for the mini coffee cup that was “embossed” using the sleeve framelit from the Coffee Cups framelit set.

Most of the supplies used to create the treat bag topper. I see I did not include the Softly Falling embossing folder and 1 1/4 inch circle punch.

Coffee Break Suite

I like coffee flavored foods but don’t drink coffee. It’s either water or kombucha for me and occasionally hot tea. I collect all of Stampin’ Up! coffee and tea stamps so the Coffee Cafe stamp set quickly made it’s trip from Utah to my stamp shelf.

I had a design session for a blog hop that will be posted tomorrow so decided to post the samples that did not make the cut for the hop the day before and after the hop. You will enjoy three designs over three days using Coffee Break for my efforts. The party favor posted tomorrow will also be the favor at this week’s Card Buffet. I hope you reserved a seat!

Today’s greeting card design had me fussy cutting coffee mugs and pots from the Coffee Break designer series paper. It was quick work with my super sharp Stampin’ Up! paper snips. I wanted to add depth that the fussy cutting would allow instead of using a straight edged cut piece.

Vellum creates the cup bubble topper which was cut using the Big Shot and the Coffee Cups framelits. I loaded the Big Shot platform to cut 5 pieces at once, the cup bubble topper, the straw, the cup that holds the sentiment, the trio of beans on the inside of the card and also the wee heart stirrer attached to the bottom left cup.

All of the straight edge papers are cut to an easy 4 inches making this a no scrap dsp generated design.

Card Exchange…Quiet Please!

When we retreat for a weekend with other papercrafters or meet as Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators, we exchange hand stamped greeting cards. The designs are great since we have been stamping for many collective years. Add all the years up and it would typically be over 300 years of stamping experience in one room!

This was the line up at our recent retreat with paper crafting friends. We had 19 card exchange participants. There was another table for sorting the cards too.

Mom usually distributes the cards with care making sure each pile receives a card. If anyone helps with the distribution, they need to stay in line with Mom. No skipping around to piles. If the piles don’t all look the same, someone’s pile has been missed. We learned that the hard way several times in the early years and had to reshuffle back to original bags to figure out who was missed.

Focusing on the task ensures each pile is identical and any extras go back to the original stamper. Quiet, Please! And don’t talk to the helpers making the piles! We have a check-in sheet with name, how many cards submitted (so we know if there are extras in their bag) and design theme. More hard lessons learned along the way.

I’ll share Mom’s card in a different post later this week. She used the Barn Door bundle. The barn door rails are peeking out from the real red cardstock towards the top of the card pile giving you a sneak peek.

Retreat Projects Completed!

We were busy crafters at our weekend retreat. Here are some photos to show what we created over our 3 days of spreading out on our own tables.

I worked on stamping and assembling the coffee cards for an upcoming card exchange. The happiness card was sent to a friend that could not make the retreat.

Dawn sewed the border around this hand stitched alphabet block. She said she used lots of red scraps. She does not know the person that created the blocks so if you recognize the artist, please add a comment.

Katrina made a stack of microwavable bowls and was working on another stack. The ribbon blanket is for baby to stimulate visual and touch senses.

We took a break for the make-n-takes, a gable box and birthday card (not shown).

There is usually a little bit of fabric left after a project is finished. Dawn creates a square to remind her of the project since most are given away as gifts. She created these squares over the weekend. She eventually hopes to sew these together to make a larger project. Maybe we will see her do this at the next retreat.

Dawn’s square project reminded me that I do something similar with designer series paper. I keep a few sheets of favorite patterns to create a scrapbook layout so I can continue to enjoy the paper long after it has been used in other projects. I have several shelves of “saved” paper waiting to be scrapbooked. Someday I’ll get to creating with the stash. It may be used to finally get the scrapbook started that is All About Me. For now, it is enough I have a saved stash that will be ready when I am.
